Who Are The Schemes For

Who are the schemes for?

On Track a mixture of track and field events in each session.

The Scheme is for children in school years 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8. Although we recommend that year 7 and above move on to the BB Athletics Academy, which is the link between ourselves and Blackheath & Bromley Harriers AC

Our belief is that children should ideally gain a broad athletic experience in these early years before progressing into more specific training. Children will be grouped into 4 groups. In this way each group will normally only have children covering a two year span.

All children will benefit from some time in the Bees Academy. It is recognised by many leading authorities in the long-term development of athletes that a broad-base at a young age is far more beneficial than specialising at that young age. The drop out of early-specialisation athletes is quite high, although traditionally this is how most clubs handle things. But we want things to change!

As part of the year 7 athletes development in the Academy, we will be looking to identify those who might benefit from some exposure to specialist sessions in addition to the multi-event approach we take in the Bees. We will now push that year 7 athletes are encouraged to progress to the BB Academy before hopefully moving in to Blackheath and Bromley Harriers AC.

Off Track a run based session out in the woods around Norman Park

This Scheme is for children in school years 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8.Although we recommend that year 7 and above move on to the BB Athletics Academy, which is the link between ourselves and Blackheath & Bromley Harriers AC

Despite a relatively high level of focus on endurance running skills, we ensure that the Off Track athletes are introduced to a full range of movement skills to improve their all-round athleticism.

Mini Bees a mixture of track and field events for those in school year 2.

This Scheme is very clearly focused on fundamental movement skills for children in School Year 2.

Please do not register Children before the have started school year 2.
